Birdseed and Brunch...Party Time

I haven't been doing any artwork all weekend because we
have been partying...wedding stuff. We had a wonderful
time at the Birdseed Bag Brunch, given by some of my sweet
employees and friends. We all got together and tied up the
little bags that we will gleefully throw at the nice young couple
as they depart the reception! That is my daughter and I in the
courtyard of Diane's lovely home. A good time was had by all.

A Rose by any other name...

Still playing around with these images. This rose was
in my yard this summer. My daughter planted a whole
rose garden when she was in high school. She planned it,
ordered the bare-root roses, planted them, and cared for
them. She just said she had always wanted a rose garden,
so she made that dream happen.
As a lot of you know, she is getting married this fall. She has
probably been planning her wedding since she was 3. And
this fall, that dream will be a reality for her as well. We meet
with the wedding planner in the morning, and lots of decisions
will be finalized. Things are shaping up around our home,
and plans are coming together. It will be beautiful.
And I will be able to sing, "Joyful, joyful" when it is all said and
done!

Word Art of the Day

I don't know why these photos uploaded twice, but you
can just enjoy them twice! I am working some more with
my large format printer, and did these two scripture photos.
The dogwood blossoms were in my yard last spring. I always
love to see their white flowers; they are usually the first things
to bloom. Here in the piney woods, the dogwood trees are scattered
throughout the forests, and when they are in bloom, they look like
white clouds floating against the dark green of the evergreens.
The flamingo photograph was taken at the Audubon zoo. I did a
colored pencil drawing of this fine bird that will be included in the
one woman show at Cabrini and Rapides hospitals this September
and October.
I am getting some children's portrait orders. There is still time to
get those done for Christmas. They make a great gift for spouses,
grandparents, or parents. All I need is a clear photograph, and
your specifications. Just email me if interested, and I can give you
prices and sizes, etc.

Paris Prints

I have been playing with my new printer..I did these 3
nice black and white designs from photos I took in Paris.
I used Photoshop to enhance the photos, and then printed
them 12 x 12 on art paper. I have some beautiful black
frames that I am going to frame them in. I hope to have
them finished by Friday.
I have an exhibit starting this weekend at Cabrini hospital
in Alexandria. They recruit different artists to hang their
work in the hallway at the hospital. The exhibit will move
to the Rapides Hospital in October. I am taking a variety of
work: some colored pencil originals and prints, some pencil
portraits and drawings, some photographs (including these)
and some watercolors. It should be a nice grouping.
I will try to post some pics of the exhibit. I am hanging it on Friday.

Little Boy Through

I finished this portrait tonight. I will let the client know
tomorrow. She wants me to frame it, so I will have to
do that as well. This is a 12 x 12 drawing (one of the new
sizes I offer), and is $125.00. The framing should run around
$75.00.
This is the time of year that my portrait drawing business
usually picks up. If you would like one done before Christmas,
this is the time to order. I can do it fairly quickly right now;
it will be a longer wait the closer it gets to Christmas. I just need
to work from your photograph. And sometimes it helps if you
send several and I can select the best one. I offer 3 sizes: 12 x 12
11 x 14 and 16 x 20. They are $125, $150, and $250. That does
not include the frame.
If you think you would like to have one done, please email me or
call the gallery. I would love to help make a treasured keepsake
for you.

Little Boy = a beginning

Started working on this little boy tonight. I don't know his
name, but I got the commission through a children's clothing
store in Alexandria, LA. It is called "Expectations" and
they carry maternity clothing, baby clothes, and children's
clothing as well. It is a great little shop on Jackson Street
Extension. This drawing is for a grandmother who wants it
for herself! I guess she loves that sweet face. Will keep working
on it.
Don't forget to become a follower to be eligible to win the Tea-shirt
(check back a few posts) I will be drawing the winner next week.

Horses, Chariots, and God

Working on some more of these scripture photos. I got a
great new printer for my birthday, and I have been trying
it out. It is a Canon large format printer, and it is fabulous.
I will be printing lots of stuff to sell at Christmas...stay posted.
Speaking of Christmas, I have been working on the design for
my annual t-shirt. Am getting closer to the one. Will post soon.
Also working on the pencil portrait...always busy!

Greece is the Word

I am in the process of planning and recruiting for our
trip next summer. We are going to go to Greece! The
trip is 13 days, and begins in Athens. The tour includes
Delphi, the island of Corfu, the Meteora region, Rio,
and Nauplion. The price includes airfare, all hotels,
transportation, insurance, buffet breakfasts, several
other meals, a tour guide, and all entrance fees, etc. I will
be leaving with my group from New Orleans, and the cost
from there will be $3800.00 without insurance, and $4100.00
with the insurance. There is a $500 deposit, and then the
balance can be made in several payments or in one sum next
spring. The date of the tour will be June 13th.
If you have any other questions, or would like some more
information, please email me. I would love to have a large
group get to go. I will be sketching, painting, and taking lots
of photographs. Other artists will be traveling, too, but non-
art people are always welcome. (I usually have more non-artists
than artists...) I can send you a detailed itinerary, registration
information, etc. if you think you would like to make this
amazing journey.

The Buzz at the Pea Patch

We never know who might show up at the Pea Patch
Cafe. Some of you will remember Ruth Buzzi...she was
a regular on "Laugh In", the comedy show from the 70's.
She happens to be married to the nephew of one of our
Winnfield residents. And they were here visiting yesterday.
They had lunch in the cafe...and she was a delight. She
signed some autographs, and then her talented husband
played the piano, and they both sang for the crowd. It
was a hoot!

We had another celebrity in the shop one day. I greeted this
man and his friend, and they said they were just browsing.
My employees kept saying, "Isn't that guy someone famous?"
And I said, "He looks like Sean Penn, but what would he be
doing here?!" Anyway, it WAS him; they were filming "All
the King's Men" in New Orleans, and he was in Winnfield
researching the Long family.
So, you never know....

Boulangerie...sweet

When I went up on Montmartre, this sweet shop was
right on the corner. It has been the subject of a lot of
paintings...especially by some of the impressionists who
lived in Paris. When I wanted to take the photo, there was
a young teenage boy standing right in front. I waited, and
waited...with my camera aimed at the building. He glanced
at me several times, nonchalantly. I finally motioned to him
asking him to scoot over...he looked around with that expression,
like, "who me?" He finally moved over, and I got the shot.
I have worked on the computer with it, and I will sell some
prints at the show in the fall.

Finished Collage

Some of you may remember that I started this
photo collage for a client. I finished it up, and she
came and picked it up today. It is for a wedding
gift, and I know the young couple. She said they
are using these colors, and she is very excited about
giving it to them. She said she likes to give gifts
that they will remember, and they can look at it
years from now and say, "You remember, Mrs.
B gave that to us...". Kind of a neat thought!

Home for Showtime

I am back from Atlanta, GA. And tonight was the opening
reception for the Natchitoches Art Guild Show in Natchitoches,
LA. That is me beside my entry: "All That Jazz" (it didn't win
anything). Anyway, the other drawing is by my friend, Michael
Graham. It is colored pencil on canvas...a very neat technique.
(it didn't win either...). The man beside the little basket is Charlie
Viers. He was my biology teacher in college. He is retired now,
and makes the pine straw baskets. His "Rainbow Basket" won
in the 3 dimensional category. He was very proud.
The juror, M. Douglas Walton, is also pictured. He is from Ruston,
and is a well known watercolor painter. He teaches workshops,
and also does travel workshops all over the world. You can see
some of his work on his website.

Just Peachy

I am in Atlanta Georgia. I came over here to
pick up some of my artwork that has been in a
gallery in Dahlonega. I am also going to market,
to order and buy some stuff for the shop for
Christmas. I also managed to buy some antiques
at some great consignment shops here.
Tonight, I've been playing around with some more
of these scripture photos. I took this photo in Paris
as I walked down a side street near the Concorde Plaza.
I am picking up some of my photos on canvas tomorrow
on my way back to Louisiana. I can't wait to see them...
they are the ones from Paris.
